Dinesen Douglas Fir Sand – Dinesen Light Oil Finish
After Dinesen Lye and Dinesen Light Oil application
Project Description: Full sand of Dinesen Douglas Fir floor and application of Dinesen Lye and Dinesen Light Oil
This beautiful Dinesen Douglas Fir floor was in need of a full sand and re-finish. Due to the wrong application methodology the Dinesen oil finish left the floor looking patchy. The finish was also prone to heavy wear and was left looking grey in many areas. It is important to follow the manufacturers recommended application to ensure the desired finish is achieved. As the floor was flat a coarse grit wasn’t necessary. We started on a medium grit belt finishing on a setting and grit. The edges were sanded using the same grade discs. Once all marks and imperfections were removed the floor was abraded using a buffing machine to ensure the floor smooth and ready for the application of the finish. The floor was then thoroughly vacuumed to remove any surface dust. One coat of Dinesen Lye was applied as per Dinesen’s instructions and left to dry over night. The following morning the Lye was lightly sanded before another thorough vacuum. Two coats of Dinesen Light oil were applied wet-on-wet before removing any excess oil with an oil cloth. After the recommended drying time the floor was again lightly buffed and vacuumed. One last coat of Dinesen Light oil was applied again removing any excess oil with an oil cloth.
The floor was successfully restored to its former beauty, looking like a Dinesen Douglas Fir floor should.
“Conrad, I’m very happy with the floor. It is exactly how I envisaged it will be, so thank you very much indeed.”
